President's Message

Fellow CCFOA Officials,

On behalf of the Board and assignors, welcome to the 2005 football season!

All officials are encouraged to begin getting into “football shape”. This includes beginning or continuing a workout regime as well as exercising your brain with the NFHS Rule Book.

This year, we need to focus on recruiting new officials. Many of our best officials were recruited by friends or acquaintances. To encourage your participation in finding new officials for this season, you will receive a $20 gift certificate for every new official that you bring into the association and who attends the annual clinic (up to $40). These new officials will be trained by Dave Jurkiewicz and his team who have done an outstanding job with our new officials over the past few years. Each of these new officials will also be assigned to a senior official who will act as a mentor to help them learn their new avocation.

To improve your officiating knowledge, you will be able to attend study sessions this spring and summer. The goal of these sessions is to: 1) increase our rules knowledge,

2) improve understanding of CCFOA mechanics, and 3) better understand CCFOA officiating philosophy. The dates and times for these meetings will be posted on the CCFOA website in May.

Also this year, the Board has decided to make some changes to the qualification exam process. The goal of the qualification exam is to ensure that we provide the schools we serve with the highest quality officials knowledgeable on both rules and mechanics. I’ve received input from members that believe our current rules exam process could be improved. This year, expect more emphasis on “group learning” followed by “improved” individual testing.

In closing, I would like to say goodbye to a few fellow officials that left us at the end of last season. The Board extends a sincere Thank You to Curtis Germany and James Parmelee for their years of service to our association and for their professionalism on the field.

Enjoy your off season, but remember; it’s never too early to begin preparation for the upcoming football season. I am committed to making this one of our best seasons, ever. If you have any ideas how I or the Board can help you to have your best season, please email me at rubiconref@comcast.net

There’s nothing quite like the Friday night lights. See you on the field!

My best,
John Nardi

Assigning Secretary's Message

Welcome to the 2005 Football Season. There are several important changes this year. The Contra Costa Assignors have converted to a web-based assigning program. This season you will simply sign-in to the web site to obtain your games. You will also be able to accept, turn back and review changes on the web.
In addition, all officials will be able to update availability online immediately. As a result, it is extremely important that I have the CORRECT e-mail address for everyone. We will have a training segment at the clinic. Officials will also be able to obtain Map Quest directions to sites and view the various teams’ schedules online--more to follow.
This year, however, officials must complete the availability sheet as in the past. This can be done online. In addition, Dan Leary will be mailing a hard copy that you can FAX to me at 707-554-1798 or mail it to PO Box 664, Martinez, CA 94553.
We also have a new high school we will be servicing. Heritage HS in Brentwood will be playing a freshman JV schedule this year. They will field a varsity team next season.
Please e-mail me at Cutaia@aol.com or call 707-554-1797 should you have any questions.

Best Regards,
Dave Cutaia, Assigning Secretary
