April-June 2003

Memoriam
Davvid Simas
April 29, 1949 ~ June 2, 2003

Dave Simas passed away after a battle with cancer. Dave will be missed not only as an excellent official, but also as a good friend.

There was a good turnout of officials at the celebration today (6/28/03). When volunteers were asked to express thoughts about Dave, Sal Gurule stood up, identified himself as a fellow referee, and did us proud, sharing a few gridiron stories that expressed in a humorous manner what a great guy Dave was and how much he will be missed. Way to go Sal!

Dave's wife Debbie has set up a college scholarship for their children in memory of Dave. Contribution checks can be made out to Debbie Simas.

President's Message

The members of your board look forward to the 2003 season with great anticipation for yet another banner year. Your 2003 ranking based on ratings were compiled carefully and ethically by Bert Michalczyk based on your 2002 season performance and is attached to this newsletter.

Treasurer Ryan McKeon has resigned his board position as he and his wife Sharon have sold their Pleasanton home. Following a cruise through the South Pacific Region, they plan to take up residence in their alluring Maui condo. However, there is a possibility that Ryan may return to the Mainland in the fall and again work with us in 2003. Mark Piccolotti has been appointed to take over Ryansıs duties on the board. We will sorely miss Ryan's steady and sage presence, but I am confident that Mark will most ably fill this role.

This will be the only newsletter mailed. Subsequent dispatches will be publish periodically at www.ccfoa.com, same as last year. E-mails will inform the membership as to each newletter's publishing. If you do not have e-mail access, it is your obligation to apprise either Dan Leary or Dave Jurkiewicz of this fact so a copy of each bulletin's content may be provided to you. In addition to information relevant to our local requirements, there are a number of links on our web page to other sites that will assist you in preparing for 2003. High praise must be given to Dave Jurkiewicz for his continued sustenance and upgrading of our first class web site.

We have elected to retain the dues structure at $75 for returning members and $100 for new officials (includes a $25 refundable bond). Meeting dates and other pertinent information are available further on in this newsletter. Feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.

See you in August!!!
Mark Ernst, President
