5 MAN CREWS
At the CCFOA September meeting, President Mark Ernst announced that Assignors Dave and Ken had negotiated the addition of a back judge to all varsity games serviced by the CCFOA at fee compensation. Many kudos, compliments and commendations should be directed towards Dave and Ken for this important accomplishment.


5 MAN MECHANICS

PREGAME
R & U - meet coaches (entire crew)
LJ - inspect field - timer instructions
HL - instruct crew
BJ - inspect field -get one ball
 
TOSS
HL/U - escort visiting team captains (R & U in the middle of the field?)
BJ/LJ - escort home team captains
 
KICK-OFF
U - with kickers, signals R when ready
LJ - K’s line
HL - R’s restraining line
BJ - R’s 5-yard line on LJ’s side
R - R’s 5-yard line HL’s side
 
ONSIDE KICK
R - moves to middle of the field
HL/LJ - same as regular kick-off
BJ - moves to R’s line on LJ’s side
U - stays in the middle
 
SCRIMMAGE KICKS
R - wide on LJ’s side of field
U - responsible for snapper - watches mid field blocks
LJ - goes down field at snap or delays momentarily to ascertain kick or no kick - has sideline to hash
HL - goes down field when ball crosses line -watches mid field blocks - helps R on bad snaps
BJ - deep with receivers - has LJ hash to HL sideline (2 bean bags)
 
TRYS & FILD GOALS
R - kicker/holder - wide to LJ side
U - snapper
HL - Line
BJ/LJ - goal posts - BJ has whistle
 
SCRIMMAGE PLAYS
R - opposite guard & tackle for false start
U - opposite guard, tackle and center for false start
HL - tackle on his side for false start - stays put - 20 YD line in, goal line responsibility - backs up BJ on side line passes - responsible for motion away and forward/backward of stand- up/quick pass-may know if a pass is beyond line
LJ - tackle on his side for false start - 20 YD line in, goal line responsibility - backs up BJ on sideline passes

BJ - responsible for tight end and opponents opposite him. Watch linebackers as well.
- relay ball from side to U whenever possible (hustle, hustle, hustle)

RECEIVER COVERAGE
HL/LJ - wide receivers and backs - same responsibility with trips formation
BJ - tight end (if double tight, take tight end on HL side) If trips, take inside receivers on trips side
 
MEASUREMENTS
U - front stake
HL - clip, chains
LJ - clip spot at right angle
BJ - ball
 
COUNTING PLAYERS
R & U - offense
BJ & LJ - defense
 
TIMING
R - 25 seconds
BJ - all others - including game clock, if inoperable


YOUTH FOOTBALL


There was a recent e-mail regarding the enforcement of illegal cleats rule, overtime procedures and excessive score difference rules at youth games. Please consult the Youth segment of this web site if you are not familiar with Youth guidelines - particular in regard to these issues. Game reports MUST be sent to Dave Cutaia and Dave Jurkiewicz ( fax #’s are on the Youth Game Report Link) if you have any unusual problems or ejections.
