Overtime Guidelines
10-Yard Line Overtime Procedure
1. 3-minute Intermission following the end of the fourth period
2. A coin toss will take place with the visiting team calling the coin
3. The winner of the toss will be given the choice of defense, offense or end of the field and the loser will have the remaining choices.
4. Each team will be give an additional time-out during each overtime period and retains any unused from regulation time.
5. If the team first on offense scores, the other team gets the opportunity to tie or win.
6. Defense is unable to score on a turn over.
7. If the score is tied after the first overtime, their will be a 2-minute intermission and the loser of the overtime toss will have first choice of options.
note: A full text of Federation overtime procedures is available on page 74 of the 2002 Rules Book.
25-Yard Line Procedure (BVAL)
1. Same as 10-yard procedure except team on offense begins its series at the 25-yard line and is able to secure 1st downs in quest for a score.
2. Unused time-outs are not carried over from regulation time. Thus teams are permitted only one time-out per overtime period.
Robert D. Bishop
A former CCFOA long-time member Bob Bishop passed away last month. Bob was a "gentle giant" and one heck of a nice guy. He grew up in San Leandro, served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam, and was active as a youth coach in Livermore for a number years. Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
