Contra Costa Times and its branch publications are currently carrying a dispatch in their "What's Happening" sections with an invitation to join the CCFOA. Thus far the response has drawn approximately fifteen additional personnel to our group. Please be a recruiter for new blood, and point out the article to prospective officials.
There will be mandatory sessions for recruits beginning at 10:00 A.M.,on Saturday, August 11, at Freedom High School and on Saturday, August 18, at the East County Youth Football scrimmage, beginning at 9:00 A.M. Both sessions will be presided over by Dave Jurkiewicz. At the August 11 gathering, a youth football team will run a number of scripted plays and various situations will be demonstrated, including kickoffs, punts, legal/illegal blocks, ineligible receivers and scrimmage formations. The correct CCFOA uniform and accompanying gear (flag, bean bag, whistle, game card, etc... ) will also be exhibited.
Further, as an added effort for enhanced membership, the Board will endeavor to contact past CCFOA members with the intent of enticing their return. If you know of former members who may be receptive to a "comeback", please have them get in touch Dave Cutaia or a board member.

Mechanics

At a recent board meeting the standardization of mechanics was discussed and it as decided that most of recent years' practices will be utilized. However, no closure was reached regarding kickoffs. A decision will be made later as to whether the "BOX" or the "DIAMOND" will be employed. If you have an opinion with respect to this issue, it should be conveyed to a board member.

Illegal Cleats

The board recommended that officials use extra effort to inform coaches and players with respect to illegal cleats at our assigned scrimmages. Cleats (both legal and illegal), and game cards with the cleat measuring tabs will both be available and on display at the August 19 clinic.

Practice Quizzes

Practice quizzes are available on line at WWW.NASO.COM that will assist in the preparation for our qualifying exam. This website contains a direct link to NASO.
